What to know about Marathi translation
Marathi is written in the Devanagari script — the same script as Hindi — and has about 83 million speakers, mostly in Maharashtra. Sharing a script does not make it Hindi, and a few differences matter when you translate:
- Politeness levels. तुम्ही is the respectful "you" and तू the familiar one. Translations default to तुम्ही, which is what you want with anyone you do not know well.
- It is not Hindi in the same letters. Everyday words differ — "how are you" is कसे आहात in Marathi but आप कैसे हैं in Hindi. Picking the right language in the dropdown matters even though both look like Devanagari.
- Verbs carry gender and number. The ending shifts with who is speaking and about what, so short, complete sentences translate far more reliably than long joined-up ones.
